BEGINNERS
LET’S LEARN A SONG
The moment I could play a familiar song from the radio, I never looked back. I was inspired to practice, learn more songs, write my own songs and play music with others in front of an audience.

I don’t want to imply that my experience will be the same as anyone else’s but it is my strong belief that the lack of motivation to practice is diminished once a connection to a song is made. I instruct my students with a song of their choice right away.

INTERMEDIATE
THEORY IS EASY!
Notes, Scales, Chords, Melodies, Harmonies and how they all work together in the language of music theory…intimidating? Well, sure but like any form of communication, build a vocabulary one word at a time and before long you are fluent.

The great thing that is the same in all art; once you learn the rules, you can start breaking them. That’s when the fun of composition really kicks in.

ADVANCED
WE CAN LEARN FROM EVERYONE
My first musical hero was Randy Rhodes (guitarist in Ozzy Osbourne’s band from 1980-1982). I read that when he was on tour he would stop by music stores and take a lesson from the local instructor. Randy was a musician that could play anything he wanted on the guitar and still knew that he could always learn.

Even if you can play circles around most players, continuing education can still provide musical enlightenment. Professionals are constantly learning from others and are open to expanding their creativity.
